The 63rd Cannes Film Festival:
The Glamour of Cannes
by Ian Larraga
The annual Cannes Film Festival is the most prestigious Film Festival in the world. With eleven days worth of glamorous movie premiers, parties and award ceremonies, nothing else in the world compares. Even the Oscars in the U.S. can only be a weekend long at the most. The Cannes Film Festival is also a major event for the international fashion industry as stars walk the red carpet multiple times during the week and major European fashion houses along with top luxury jewelry and accessory companies, are lined up to show their best creations on the biggest stars.
For the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, major stars such as Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Lopez wore a number of fabulous gowns and cocktail dresses by Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Emilio Pucci, and Naeem Khan as well as exquisite jewelry and accessories provided by Cartier, de Grisigono, Swarovski, and Montblanc to name a few.
Cannes has grown more glamorous as the years go by. The circus like, "anything goes" atmosphere of the 60's and 70's has given way to the ultra polished and ultra luxe look of today. If anything, Cannes embodies the spirit of a classic James Bond film with gentlemen leisurely wearing tuxes and sipping martinis while the femme fatales parade in the most lavish of evening gowns. Of course, Cannes is at the heart of the French Riviera after all, it can't help but be glamorous.
