Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York:
Brian Reyes Fall 2010 Collection
If Brian Reyes wasn't a fashion designer, he might have easily been an artist. He approaches fashion with the same thought and intensity as any artist would with their chosen medium. Upon meeting Brian Reyes, you can sense right away that the young Columbian designer is a deep, serious and passionate thinker who pours his soul into his work.
For the Fall 2010 collection, Brian took inspiration from a favorite source, nature and to be specific, the trees. The first few pieces of the collection were made with a beautiful print that resembled the patterns on birch trees. My favorite pieces using that print was the long coat and the cocktail dress.
Another source of inspiration came from a chance encounter with Ukrainian artist Oksana Mas at the Zorya Fine Art Gallery. You could say that Oksana and Brian are kindred spirits, both deriving works from nature. They collaborated on a series of paintings that eventually became prints used for the collection.
