Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York:
Prabal Gurung Fall 2010 Collection

Want to know who the next great fashion star will be, following in the footsteps of Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang and Jason Wu? He's not exactly a big secret. If Anna Wintour graces the front row of your show, you have in some ways "arrived". His name is Prabal Gurung, the former lead designer for Bill Blass before the company went under. Now Prabal is out on his own and is winning awards and gaining the recognition of fashion's top editors and top retailers.

The look for Prabal Gurung's Fall 2010 collection is chic and modern but not too minimalist. Prabal uses geometric shapes and color blocking to positive effect and I especially enjoyed his line of cocktail dresses. The colors that he uses are in deep hues of yellow, green and red with one or two pieces in a shot of bright red contrasted with black. He also loves to use cashmere wool and satin which are just stiff enough to hold those geometric shapes.

Prabal Gurung designs for the modern woman who, like himself, is an international traveler that is accustomed to the speed of the modern world and by that he means the use of instant communication via social media. The Prabal Gurung woman is chic, smart, independent and knows how to dress herself.

Celebrities are already lining up to wear Prabal Gurung with Demi Moore being a major supporter. I have great expectations for the young designer and I am most certain that he'll surpass all of them in time.
