When I last met David Chum, he was showing at Boston Fashion Week in 2009 at the Iman Fashion Group's Fashion Evolution. Today, David is happy to be part of the first Styleweek Providence where he's showing a bit of his last Spring collection as well as debuting his new Fall collection.
Unlike most designers, David did not have a proper education in fashion design but he loved art. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lesley College. He trained himself in draping and pattern making and within a few years time he started his first design business called Selah D'or.
Based locally in Massachusetts, David has produced just his third collection for Selah D'or. His talent with shape and tailoring is clearly evident and his ability to put together a strong, complete line shows in his new Fall collection.
For Fall, David chose a black, goth motif highlighted with transparent fabrics, different textured fabrics and jewelry. Some of my favorite pieces from the collection include transparent fabrics with bits of gold colored studs on the shoulder or waistline area. The metal studs were skillfully hammered into the delicate silk organza.
Selah D'or is currently available at Suneri in Boston and Calico in Providence. Please visit
