It's was that time of year again and Sam Mendoza was ready to put on a big show. Every six months, the young designer looks forward to Boston Fashion Week with a touch of anticipation and dread. But Sam is never lacking for support and this year's show was his biggest production to date.
The Liberty Hotel was proud to host Sam Mendoza's latest collection entitled DarkWave Disco. Unlike the usual Fashionably Late format, Sam's collection got the special treatment as the top two floors of the hotel was filled with seats and became the impromptu runway. The view was breathtaking (though not for those with fear of heights)

Designer Sam Mendoza is filled with excitement at the finish of his latest collection shown at the top two floors of the Liberty Hotel during Boston Fashion Week 2009. He is more than ready to celebrate with family and friends.

Sam Mendoza never designs for a particular season, he just designs what he likes. For his latest collection, Sam likes a lot of dresses, a few long to go with the short ones. He also took a liking to strong colors such as magenta, violet and shades of yellow and blue. My favorite color combination was a short dress in dark violet, yellow, grey and black.
Sam doesn't stray far from his signature look of unfinished edges and silky, shiny fabrics. What's new from Sam this year was the use of silk prints, most notably a print with circles and crosses in a shade of yellow and another in light blue. We also saw the use of short capes for dramatic effects.
The collection as a whole was dark, romantic and sexy and Sam had a bit of fun putting it all together. Aside from the attendance of close friends and loyal fans, Sam's family made a long trip to attend the show. Sam Mendoza's designs are available exclusively at Stil boutique in Chestnut Hill.
